Shenanigans with The High Horses πΈπ΅
OMGOSH! Last night was just AMAZING!! π
The High Horses are one of our absolute fave bands. This rock/folk group from Brum first stole our hearts at Moseley Folk Festival, and we've been proper fans ever since.
They were the last band we saw before that bloomin' COVID lockdown and the first we saw when places started opening back up (remember those weird 'social distance' gigs where you had to book tables?? Odd times, but we were so desperate for live music we didn't care! π)
It's been AGES since we've seen them live... first theaardvark got that horrible long-COVID, then my FND decided to crash the party. π But now I've got my powered chair to test before Bearded Theory festival, there was NO WAY we were missing this gig! #wheelchairadventures
I'm getting more confident with gigging in my wheels, but one downside is that poor theaardvark has to drive The Wheelchair Chariot everywhere and can't have a proper drink. So we got clever yesterday and booked a little hotel room just round the corner! The Old Farm Hotel in Bournville - absolute gem of a place! β¨
The accessible room was perfect! Disabled parking right by the entrance - literally 10 wheel rotations from car to room (yes, I counted! π). The lovely couple running it couldn't have been more helpful. If you're heading to Cadbury World, it's a 5 minute trundle from the main entrance, and just a 10 minute wheel to The Attic Brewery where the gig was.
The Attic Brewery is a F*#king fantastic wheelchair-friendly venue (with one tiny hangup). All on one level - no steps, ramps or lifts needed to get from entrance to bar and main room. Blessed with good timing, another powered chair user and their partner were leaving just as the band started and let us take their prime spots right by the performance area. #wheelchairsolidarity πͺ

The small hangup? The accessible loo has a 12" step! π Staff offered to sort a ramp, but I chose to take a few steps with theaardvark's help. Just seemed quicker, innit.
The High Horses were AWESOME as always! One thing I love is how loose and ad-hoc their performances are - just hanging together on pure love of the music and willingness to jam. Every performance feels different, which makes them just as magical the 100th time as the first time.

I even got some dancing in! Well... theaardvark put my wheels in neutral and spun me around until he wore himself out. π But it broke the ice - the floor filled up proper after that! And we chair-boogied ALL NIGHT LONG! π
The band even said how good it was to have us back at one of their gigs and on the dancefloor. Called us the 6th member of the band. Awww! π₯°
The trundle home was... interesting! π€ͺ The dark and several drinks probably contributed to that adventure!
All in all, I had a CRACKING night. 12 out of 10 on the Wheely Good Scale! βββ
Big love to all, and remember to be kind π Sha xxx
