Doing Some Light "Off Road" Testing of the Rascal Rueba

Me enjoying a crisp winter's day in my powered wheelchair, sporting my trusty red beanie and cosy brown UGGs. I'm driving down a slight hill in the local park with bare winter trees in the background. My wheelchair's looking proper sporty today with those cool white accents and star-shaped wheels! Just because it's chilly doesn't mean we stay indoors - vitamin D mission accomplished! My chair handles these grassy slopes like a dream... who needs a 4x4 when you've got this beauty? Accessibility? More like access-ABILITY, am I right?

Good morning, lovely people! 👋

Well, what a gorgeous day it was yesterday for some wheelchair shenanigans! Me and Paul (aka "theaardvark" - my better half) took the shiny new Rascal Rueba out to Chase Terrace Park for a bit of an adventure. Had to see how this beauty would handle something a tad more challenging than the high street, didn't I?

I've been banging on about wanting to get back to festivals for ages, so testing it on some proper grass and hills seemed the logical first step! The FND makes getting about a right pain in the backside most days, and my Fibro decided to join the party too (cheers for that), but I was determined to have myself a little outdoor adventure.

Let me tell you, this wheelchair has some proper grunt to it! We found a few gentle slopes and I'm chuffed to bits with how it handled them. Check out this first test going uphill:

The verdict? I think this beast is going to do just fine at festivals... provided it's not a complete mud bath! I'm not saying I'm quite ready for Glastonbury's notorious mud sliding just yet, but Download Festival might be on the cards! Can you imagine? Me, back at live music, feeling that bass through my bones? Absolute bliss.

Of course, what goes up must come down! Here's the Rueba tackling a downhill stretch - bit nerve-wracking at first but the control is brilliant:

Had to have a proper rest when we got home though - fatigue levels went through the roof. But you know what? Worth. Every. Second. Even had a celebratory cider (just the one, mind - I'm not completely daft).

So that's day one of what I'm calling "The Great Wheelchair Testing Tour of 2025" - where should we try next? Any suggestions for places around Lichfield or Burntwood that are wheelchair-friendly but still a bit of an adventure?
