I Got a Powered Wheelchair!

Me in my powered wheelchair enjoying a beautiful spring day in Chase Terrace Park, surrounded by a carpet of purple and white crocuses with sunny yellow daffodils peeking through. I'm wearing my favourite red beanie, big warm coat and cosy UGGs, with a big smile on my face despite the chilly weather. Nature's putting on a proper show and I'm front row - my wheelchair handling the terrain like a champ! We're ready for Bearded Theory!

I Got a Powered Wheelchair!

πŸ‘‹ Good morning, beautiful people! (Or afternoon, or evening - whenever you're reading this!)

GUESS WHAT?! This wheelchair warrior has just gone ELECTRIC! ⚑
So the PIP fairies FINALLY sorted my backdated claim (only took them forever and a day πŸ™„), which left us with a bit of cash to play with. The Taylor household thought we'd just do a bit of window shopping for powered wheelchairs - absolutely no intention of buying anything yet, mind you. We figured we'd need to save up more pennies before getting something decent.

Enter, stage left... Grace Cares! 🌟

These absolute LEGENDS are a not-for-profit based in Lichfield who "Collect, maintain & sell pre-loved care equipment". The ladies there are AMAZING (I've mentioned them I couldn't use the chair straight away as the previous owners had put the controls on the back hand rail. But my father-in-law (hero!) sorted that for me immediately. So my first drive was on his back-yard. Please excuse the ugly-crying in the video - they're happy tears! This was the moment it sunk in just how much more independence this chair could give me. #greatfulheart❀️

As soon as we got home, we took that bad boy for a spin round the block...

And we just HAD to test the "off-roading" capability up and down the back garden. This chair is definitely going to be festival-ready in the dry! Still need to test it on soft ground another time. #FND #Fibro #wellbeingwarrior

I'm not going to lie, it's going to take me a while to get used to driving this thing. It's been months since I've had to use my core muscles to keep steady like this. And the concentration needed to drive it is currently exhausting (#ItSucks). But I'm looking forward to getting some independence back.

So have a beautiful sunny day, folks, and remember - whatever challenges you're facing, there's always hope for better days ahead. Just sometimes they come with wheels! 😊

Love, Sha (aka slightly less grumpy kincowbag) x
